A ripple of hopes.
Excellent book about RFK!
EXCELLENT INTRODUCTION TO A GOOD MANThis is a book I would have LOVED as a child. This is a book I respect as an adult. I feel it gives young readers a good overview of the Senator's life and character and makes him somebody they can relate to. We follow the progress of little Bobby, 8 and 10 years younger than brothers Jack and Joe respectively determined to keep up with them. We smile at the small boy who was so determined to teach himself to swim that he flung himself into the ocean at age 4. Some 35 years later, we see that same little boy, now a Senator, determined to climb a previously unscaled mountain in Canada. He was a man who suffered from acrophobia, but he tabled his terror and climbed that mountain out of love for his brother.
Robert Kennedy is a hard worker and his life is a litany of hard won successes. He had to live with people comparing him to his brother Jack, who was elected president in 1960. He had to contend with the feeling that he was still trying to keep up with Jack. It is only in the tragic aftermath of Jack's death does the full adult face of Robert Kennedy emerge -- the man who had previously worked behind the scenes promoting his brother becomes a KNOWN force to be taken seriously. He is the man who in addition to pursuing teamsters and mafiosi ("bad guys who break the law") finds his own voice, his own interests and his own identity beyond the shadow of his brother. He is the man who, in the last half decade of his life became the voice for many. He was better than a great man. Robert Kennedy was a good man.
That same caring side is brought out on issues concerning minorities, poverty and civil rights. The man who would be president in 1968 comes across as serious and sincere in his efforts. As we track him on the campaign trail in 1968, we are left with the painful question of what the intervening years would have been had he lived to win that presidential election.

State of the artThe book has absolutely everything you need to know about seabirds. It is written in a very logical way and the plates are very good. The first 23 pages are an introduction to the subject, an overview of the glossary etc. Pages that makes it possible for you to understand the describtions of the birds later in the book - even if you are a beginner.
After the introduction there is 88 plates with drawings of all the seabirds in the world, including subspecies. All the plates are in colour and has been drawn from field notes and photos. The paintings are great and they will be a very good help when you are out there doing the birding.
After the section with the plates there is describtions of all the birds. After the describtions there are distribution maps. The describtions are very good, but the maps could have been slightly bigger, in order to give the reader a better chance to find out the (more or less) exact distribution of the species.
I haven't seen any books on seabirds that are compareable to this on. It is the state of the art when it comes to seabirds and fieldguides. You simply need this book if you are into seabirds. Buy it!
The definitive guide to Seabirds.
Highly influencial bird guideAfter Peter Harrison: "By Jove, what a fine example of a juvenile female intermediate-morph Pomarine Jaeger!"

No one should be without this book
A thrilling read! Not to be missed!
I didn't think I would like this book . . . .

brilliant
Subtle, allusive, endlessly entertaining
An evening's read, and at least a fortnight's dreamsAs the reviewer from Time Out said "An evening's read, and at least a fortnight's dreams". I never return to books after reading them - I have far too many unread books to make time for that, but this is a book which I have gone back to again and again just to drink in the atmosphere of Viriconium.

Wonderful book for moms (and kids too)
Children's Librarian recommends for both parents & kids!
I feel that this same situation has occur in our family life

A must for understanding the nature of ChinaThis book puts a gentle face on a very brave people who have suffered not only the largest land grab of the 20th century through the bloody invasion by China (Tibet is the size of Europe) but have suffered a genocide by the Chinese that is the most widely ignored in history.
This is a beautiful book and worth the price. Add to your reading list "Tears Of Blood" by Mary Craig and "In Exile From the Land Of Snows" by John Avedon.
China will be one of the 3 big stories of the next century if we make it richer and more powerful. This book is as important as it is a beautiful undertaking. Congratulations to Mr. Harrison END
Compelling Stories with Masterful B&W Photography
A "must" for all students of Tibetan history and Buddhism.

Brown Dog is a Hero for Our TimeNot the most insightful review, I'm sure. However, how can a person be critical about something he or she enjoys?
Audacious,Ballsy,Cynical,Exceptionally F*cking Good !!!!
3 terrific stories - one of my all time favorite books

This series brings back fond memories of when I was youngWhile these books will not tickle the fancy of an older reader, the young-at-heart love them. Rereading this book brought back many memories of reading this series when I was much younger. I recommend this book to any nostalgic adults or those with young children.
Easy reading but interesting story!

My favorite childhood series!
